Supported asset types.

Every file type Vault can save and import, which category it lands in, and what Import does with it.

Vault saves and imports the types below. Anything not listed is not supported in this release, and the Save page refuses it with an “Unsupported file type” message.

Saving a comp

Save → Comp packages a composition into a project file plus its collected footage. It appears as a .aep asset in the Comps category.

Saving a file

Save → Upload a file accepts:

| Type | Extensions | Default category | Import does | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | After Effects project | .aep | Comps | Imports the project and adds its main comp as a layer | | Animation preset | .ffx | choose one | Applies it to the first selected layer | | Video | .mp4, .mov | choose one | Imports the file and adds it as a layer | | Audio | .mp3, .wav | Sound Effects | Imports the file and adds it as a layer | | Image | .png, .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .tif, .tiff | Images | Imports the file and adds it as a layer | | Vector | .svg | Images | Imports the file and adds it as a layer | | 3D model | .glb | 3D | Imports the file and adds it as a layer |

You can change the category before saving. Image types fill in the thumbnail from the image itself; for other types you capture or choose one.

Not supported

  • Image sequences. A comp that uses one cannot be packaged.
  • Comps that use another project file as a source (a nested .aep).
  • Other file types as uploads, such as .aepx, .psd, .ai, .exr or .m4v. Inside a comp, many more footage types can travel; as a standalone upload only the table above is accepted.

The exact list of footage types that can travel inside a comp is on Storage and packaging limits.
